Fomento Ganesh Utsav 2010 : An infotaining start
Fomento Resources commenced celebrations for the festival of Lord Ganesh - the God of prosperity with a range of educational activities.
As part of its annual tradition, the alliance organized a series of pre Ganesh Chaturthi programmes for teachers, students, housewives and its own executives.
The programmes were informative and delivered in an engaging style. Mr. Deepak Apte - a well-known management expert from Pune conducted workshops for teachers entitled “Secrets of Guru”, where the local “gurus” or teachers were advised on dealing with students of different skill sets including those labeled as ‘problem children’.
In a separate programme for students entitled - “Awakening the inner giant”, Dr Apte expressed one basic mantra- ‘Think positive’.
Students of the Chandrabhaga Tukoba Naik School, Savordem and the Guardian Angels school were taught how to use this positive mantra to tackle all problems from examination related stress to personal issues.
Executives of Fomento Resources took time off to spend a day with Mr. Apte and imbibe best practices related to inter personal relationships, coordination with colleagues and teamwork.
Professor Dilip Betkikar further extended the themes of knowledge and information through the “Learn to Learn” programme. The programme focused on overcoming life’s challenges through will power and passion.
The engaging Professor Prabhakar Timble - one of the Alliances’ senior executives conducted career-counseling workshops for students of the high schools of Kavre and Nhavalim.

The local housewives - key members of self-help groups in the locality participated in the annual culinary completion. Each year, participants were given one fruit or vegetable to be used as a base for their culinary item. 2009 was the year of the carrot and this year it was the bitter gourd (karela). An amazing array of karela based dishes including sweets and tasty fries were laid out in the middle at the Somnath High School as Savargal.
The karela event was followed by a talk on how to manage waste at home, which was conducted by Pradip Sarmokadam - an environmentalist and key member of the Alliances initiatives in managing urban waste with the help of communities.
Ladies who attended the culinary competition were taught the benefits of segregating garbage into three categories of wet, dry and plastic using simple techniques to process the waste at home.
A talk on the benefits of producing and growing organic food by an Ayurvedic doctor - Dr Mithun Murari Bhondre and diabetic care specialist - Dr Prakash Prabhudesai was held at the Somnath High School at Savargal, South Goa.
The team of executives at Fomento Resources a.k.a the people responsible for the smooth operation of all the pre chaturthi activities are getting ready for the main Ganesh festival, which commences on September 9th 2010.
