Advalpal Computer Academy : Programmed to Excel

Ten years ago, the youth of Advalpal village were most likely to dismiss words such as Excel sheets, Ms Word or Powerpoint as urban jargon. Today, 52 students can operate or work on these programmes with ease.

The computer institute at Advalpal was established by Fomento Resources in 2008, as part of its goal to spread computer literacy into remote parts of Goa. In just two years, 52 students of the first batch have completed the course in basic computer education.

52 of these students received certificates issued by Hallmark - one of Goa's best known computer academies. Hallmark is currently working with Fomento Resources on the expansion of the computer literacy project. 25 more students from the first batch are expected to graduate in two weeks. The day is not far when the hundredth student completes his/her course from the Advalpal academy.

Pranita Naik is completing her basic computer education course and plans to be a teacher in the same academy. She says: “My teacher Anvesha Walve is dedicated to teaching. She takes care of each and every difficulty which students encounter. She has made me like teaching as well and I am excited at the prospect of being a teacher in the same institute where I’ve been a student”

With four computer clinics in Redi, Sacorda, Advalpal and Colomba graduating 360 students, the future looks bright for Pranita and young students of her generation.
