The OSB is an offshore stockyard
terminal, to be located about twelve kms. off Mormugoa / Panaji. It will consist of concrete caissons, with approx. dimensions of 200 m
x 45m width x 43 m height with inside partitions to stock different types
of iron ores and coal. The caissons will be towed to their final
location, ballasted and seated permanently on a prepared foundation on the seabed
at depth of about 24 m of water. The OSB will
be capable of withstanding the worst foreseeable storm.

The terminal will accommodate Super-Cape
size bulk carriers with drafts exceeding 20m. The OSB will unload into its holds the iron
ore for export brought in by barges and then load into bulk carriers. It will also unload
imported coal from bulk carriers, and transship it onto shore-bound barges. The OSB will
be equipped with the most modern bulk cargo handling equipment including 50-ton capacity
mobile deck cranes with 32m out-reach, capable of moving in a transverse direction on the
caissons. Ship and barge loading / unloading would thus be possible on both sides if the
