The
economic utilisation of natural inland waterways is a unique feature of Goa's ore
transportation. This is possible on account of the peculiar geographical location that the
Goan iron ore mines enjoy in the hinterland, about 40 kms, from the coast. The mines are
located close to the main rivers, Zuari (in the south) and Mandovi (in the north). These
rivers meet at a promontory in the Arabian Sea off the Mormugoa Port. Taking advantage of
this, the cargo is transported in self-propelled barges to Berth # 9 at the Port or
directly mid-stream to feed transfer vessels for loading into ocean going vessels. |

In addition, We engage a fleet
totaling 3500 - 4000 DWT barges on regular time charter basis. The company is currently
constructing two barges of 1600 Metric Tonnes and is in the process of acquiring
additional 2000 tonner barges to increase its captive fleet. |
